　　Let’s go to the restaurant across the street and get something to eat.

　　2. 表動(dòng)作，穿越。

　　You must go across the bridge and then turn right.

　　你必須先過(guò)橋，然后再往右拐。

　　二、age

　　1. 年齡。最一般的表達(dá)。在此不贅述。

　　2. 衰老。

　　the aging people = the old people

　　現(xiàn)代社會(huì)出現(xiàn)越來(lái)越嚴(yán)重的aging problem(人口老齡化問(wèn)題)等。

　　三、all

　　1. shake all over 渾身顫抖

　　2. all of a sudden 突然地

　　All of a sudden, I remembered her name. 我突然想起了她的名字。

　　3. by all means 一定

　　I’ll come by all means. 我一定會(huì)來(lái)的。

　　4. all night long 整晚

　　My present neighbor plays piano all night long. 我現(xiàn)在的鄰居整晚都彈鋼琴。

　　六、awfully

　　非常地，相當(dāng)?shù)亍Ｔ诳谡Z(yǔ)中用于表程度的比例十分高。

　　awfully nervous 相當(dāng)緊張;awfully cold 相當(dāng)冷;awfully sorry 十分抱歉

　　Tom looks awfully nervous.湯姆看上去相當(dāng)緊張。

　　I am awfully sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you.十分抱歉。我不想傷害你的。

　　七、be bound to

　　肯定，注定

　　The movie starts in 5 minutes and there’s bound to be a long line.

　　電影還有5分鐘就開(kāi)始了?現(xiàn)在那里肯定排著長(zhǎng)隊(duì)。

　　八、be tired of

　　厭煩。當(dāng)一個(gè)人感到厭煩的時(shí)候，也是最容易lose one’s temper(生氣)的時(shí)候。

　　九、be worn out

　　1. 筋疲力盡，這個(gè)表達(dá)不太正式，多用于口語(yǔ)。

　　I’m usually worn out at the end of the day. 在一天快結(jié)束時(shí)我時(shí)常覺(jué)得很累。

　　2. 破舊不堪。

　　2. make it better 讓……更好

　　1. 賬單，買(mǎi)單。

　　I will pay the bill this time because last time you did it.

　　2. 提案。

　　We all passed the bill on yesterday’s board meeting.

　　All the morning flights have been booked up. 所有明早的飛機(jī)票都預(yù)定光了。

　　十三、briefing

　　1. 簡(jiǎn)介。會(huì)議之前，總要有一個(gè)項(xiàng)目叫做Give a briefing.

　　Mrs. Lung’s briefing seems to go on forever.Lung女士的簡(jiǎn)報(bào)似乎沒(méi)完沒(méi)了。

　　十四、change

　　1. 改變，更改。這是該詞的基本意思，看兩個(gè)例子回顧一下。

　　我必須得更改我的票。

　　十六、copy

　　1. 一本，一份。a copy of 口語(yǔ)中經(jīng)常使用。

　　我想買(mǎi)本富蘭克林教授寫(xiě)的關(guān)于美國(guó)文化的書(shū)。

　　2. 復(fù)印。簡(jiǎn)單動(dòng)詞。

　　十七、count

　　1. 數(shù)數(shù)。

　　She is counting the days. 她每天都在數(shù)著日子。

　　2. 指望。count on 依賴(lài)

　　We’ll have to count on good weather.

　　我們不得不指望一個(gè)好天氣。

　　十八、cover

　　1. 封面。hard cover 精裝書(shū)，與hard back book同意。另外，每個(gè)娛樂(lè)雜志的封面都免不了會(huì)有一位漂亮?xí)r尚的cover figure(封面人物)。

　　The hard cover is on sale for the same price as the paperback this week in the bookshop.

　　在書(shū)店，這些精裝本與平裝本價(jià)格相同。

　　2. 讀完，完成。

　　I think we’ve covered everything.

　　二十、drama

　　戲劇。這是一種西方的藝術(shù)形式。四級(jí)聽(tīng)力中曾經(jīng)多次出現(xiàn)。其他的藝術(shù)形式還有TV play(電視劇)，soap opera(肥皂劇)，concert(音樂(lè)會(huì))……

　　Some people just can’t seem to appreciate real-life drama.

　　31. laundry

　　該詞本意是指洗衣店。但是在聽(tīng)力中，會(huì)用來(lái)借指洗衣服的工作。

　　比如，There’s a lot of laundry to do.有很多衣服要洗。

　　32. look

　　該詞本身作為一個(gè)基本動(dòng)詞并無(wú)什么難度，但是它頻頻在聽(tīng)力中出現(xiàn)的各種用法我們不得不掌握一下。

　　(1)看上去。

　　You look great. 你看上去氣色很好。

　　You look awfully nervous. 你看上去很緊張。

　　All of my clothes look so old and I can’t afford something new.

　　我所有的衣服看上去都很舊，我買(mǎi)不起新的。

　　It’s not as bad as it looks.　它并沒(méi)有看上去的糟。

　　(1)make an appointment 預(yù)約

　　(3)make room for sb 騰出位子給某人

　　34. mistake

　　(1)錯(cuò)誤。make a mistake

　　(2) 誤認(rèn)。這對(duì)雙胞胎長(zhǎng)得太像了，所以I often mistake one for another，并且無(wú)法tell themapart。

　　35. notice

　　(1) 通知。

　　Please wait for further notice. 請(qǐng)注意進(jìn)一步通知。

　　(2) 注意到。

　　Have you noticed anything wrong here? 你注意到這里有什么問(wèn)題嗎?

　　36. offer

　　(1)提供。公司提供工作職位給學(xué)生就是offer a job。國(guó)外大學(xué)提供獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金即：offer scholarship。所以大家一般稱(chēng)國(guó)外大學(xué)的全額獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金為offer。

　　I turned down the offer because it would mean frequent business trips away from myfamily.

　　我拒絕了這份工作因?yàn)樗箢l繁的出差。

　　They’re offering me a job after I graduate.　他們給我提供了一份畢業(yè)后的工作。

　　(2)幫助。offer to help others 樂(lè)于助人

　　37. order

　　(1) 命令。這是最基本用法，不贅述。

　　(2) 訂購(gòu)。

　　I haven’t received the furniture I ordered yet.我還沒(méi)有收到訂購(gòu)

　　How about the food I ordered?我訂的飯菜如何?

　　餐廳服務(wù)用語(yǔ)：Can I take / serve your order?

　　(3) 秩序。 out of order 比較亂，其反意為in order。

　　38. paint

　　(1) 油漆。

　　Did Henry paint the whole house himself?整棟房都是亨利自己漆的嗎?

　　He had it painted. 他找人刷了油漆。

　　(2) 繪畫(huà)。

　　Can you tell me the title of this oil painting?　你能告訴我這貼畫(huà)油畫(huà)的名字嗎?
